I’m sure many of you know this but for those that don’t, 10 days ago, my biz partner and best friend of 25 years, Tom Dyer fell ill whilst descending from Table Mountain in Cape Town.
Tom and his wife Jess were over in SA for a friends wedding.
Many of you will know Tom personally and at least through this newsletter and Facebook as we ran Ultimate City Fitness for 5 years together in the city before he moved on to different things by moving to Menorca in June.
Long story short, he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, which is effectively a brain bleed and has been in hospital for the last 10 days.
It was unexplained with doctors unable to give a definitive answer as to why this happened.
Tom is 44 years old, the same as me, fit, healthy, works out most days and gives advice to people about their health and fitness.
This shouldn’t have happened to someone like him.
But it did.
It hammers home the fact that we are basically all one heart beat away from it all ending.
We don’t know what is around the corner.
We assume that we will make it to old age.
My point is this.
Don’t wait another day to be happy.
Life is precious and very often far too short.
Your health is the most important commodity you will ever possess and knowing that even when healthy it can all be over in a second should be enough drive and motivation to make your life the best it can be.
I’m not saying to live recklessly.
Don’t live like there is no tomorrow as that will surely hasten your trip to the cemetery.
BUT, don’t stay in a job you hate.
Always wanted to go somewhere but have been waiting for something?
Don’t wait until the kids leave Uni and you retire.
Always wanted to write that book, start that hobby or just try something different with your life?
January 2018 could be a great time to make a move on that.
Unfortunately, Tom won’t make it home for Christmas as he isn’t fit to fly but we are all grateful he is alive.
He was lucky.
I don’t know the whole story but I’m sure some in the same scenario don’t make it.
For those that know him and want to, he’d appreciate an email from you on firstname.lastname@example.org
Today is the last working day effectively before Christmas day.
I’m in a village outside Yarm called Hutton Rudby at Alex’s parents house with Alex and baby G or G-dizzle as I like to call him.
On Boxing day, we drive early to Peterborough for 3 days to see my mum and dad and Mia, my 13 year old daughter who lives in King’s Lynn.
We were hoping to see Tom and Jess on the 29th but they won’t make it back.
I hope you all have an amazing few days.
Eat and drink a little too much. It won’t do you any harm.
Think about what I’ve said.
Make some bold moves in the New Year.
You don’t have time to waste.
All the best.
