I finally got round to watching “The Revenant” last night.
The film is set in 1823 in the good ol’ US of A with the story focused on a group of trappers and a tribe of American Indians.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is attacked by a bear after disturbing the bear’s cubs in the forest. He survives the attack but is very badly wounded. He is then buried alive and left to rot by a fellow compatriot (supposedly)
A great film although a tad long and over indulgent at times.
For me, the cinematography was actually better than the film itself but regardless of this, Leo, having won every other major gong this season will surely scoop the Oscar in a few weeks times.
The film reminded me of a proverb I read a few years ago from an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson…
” My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.
One is evil.
It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.
The other is good.
It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather
“Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied
“The one you feed”
We can learn a lot from these wise words.
There is no place in this world for the first emotions or wolf, although we do experience all of them on some level at some point in our lives…
The problem lies in the fact that many people allow these negative emotions to rule and cripple their lives.
Many people are stuck in the past, angry at something that someone did or didn’t do to them.
This could be a friend, parent or any family member.
Many people are resentful, jealous and angry with another person’s success yet fail to focus on their own life and how they can improve their life and achieve their goals.
Many people are so caught up in their own ego that they fail to realise that their “ego” actually portrays the complete opposite of what is going on inside.
Better to focus on the positive emotions such as, humility, kindness and peace.
Better to focus on being kind, telling the truth and showing empathy.
Better to have hope and faith in this world.
“Grandfather, which wolf wins?”
“The one you feed”
How do you feed yourself these positive emotions and avoid the negative ones?
You can start with the books that you read, the people you surround yourself with and actions you perform in your daily life.
Flush your mind with positive, uplifting, motivational material first thing in the morning.
Surround yourself with people that are moving in the direction you want to go.
You are the sum of the five people that you hang around with the most.
Remember that 🙂
Whatever you want from others, you must give first.
If you want people to be kind to you , then show kindness to others.
If you want to be loved, then love others.
Which wolf is ruling your life?
Which wolf are you listening to?
Which wolf are you feeding?
