9 Reasons How Weight Training Will Improve Your Life

  1. It will make you faster.

If running is your thing, weight training will increase your speed, whether its 100m or up to a marathon. Contrary to what many “runners” believe, weight training will not make you slower and muscle bound.

Read this for more detail specifically for runners.

  1. Makes you stronger.

Weight training will increase your muscle mass, which in turn will make you stronger. Whatever sport you practice outside the gym, you will perform better when resistance training is part of your schedule.

  1. Burns more body fat.

Weight training is the no 1 way to burn body fat. I mention it all the time but I will say it again. Lean muscle tissue is your bodies fat burning machinery.

Muscle will burn more calories just by being there. Someone with more muscle burns more calories at rest, even whilst sleeping than someone with less muscle mass. Ladies, please don’t be scare of building a few kg’s of muscle.

  1. Helps prevent injury.

Weight training helps prevent injuries by strengthening your muscle but also the connective tissue like tendons, ligaments and cartilage that support your body structure.

  1. Increase anti-oxidant levels and reduce stress.

A moderate to heavy strength training programme has been shown to increase antioxidant status and counter oxidative stress. This is a good strategy since we are inundated by free radicals from our environment and poor dietary choices, but throw strength training into the mix, and you will be much better off.

  1. Increases your sex drive.

I don’t know anyone that doesn’t want to increase this. In the modern world, this can be seriously reduced for so many reasons. Weight training has been scientifically proven to improve your sex drive.

  1. Makes you look sexy.

When you build muscle you burn body fat. Your body shape will change, you become leaner, more “toned”, more defined and look better in your clothes and when you are naked. The results of all of this is that you will be more sexually attractive to others.

  1. Weight training makes you better looking.

It’s not scientifically proven but anecdotally, it appears to make the individual get better looking overtime. I’ve seen it happen, I swear. I’m a big fan of weight training, purely for this reason 🙂

  1. Gives you a sense of accomplishment.

When you lift weights and you lift a weight heavier than you lifted before for a certain amount of reps, it can massively boost your confidence and make you feel like you’ve accomplished something great.

It might seem insignificant, that extra rep or two or that extra 2.5kg on the bar but I’ve seen people swell with pride when they get a P.B in the gym and this is not exclusive to weight training, its all sports really.

So if you are not weight training regularly, maybe this post will spur you on you get to the gym again or if you haven’t weight trained before, it may encourage you to try it.
